To drive within the London Low Emission Zone (LEZ), covering most of greater London, a HGV vehicle must meet stringent emission standards that limit the amount of particulate matter coming from its exhaust. Particulate matter (“PM”) or ‘soot’ is a type of pollution that can contribute to asthma, heart and lung disease, other respiratory illnesses and even early death, and particularly affects the young and the elderly of society.
The European Commission estimates that air pollution is responsible for over 300,000 deaths in Europe each year, more than caused by road accidents. Furthermore, the estimated human health cost to the European economy attributed to air pollution is between 427-760 billion Euros per year.
Ever mindful of its environmental responsibilities, Chris Hayter Transport Ltd has embarked on an ambitious programme of vehicle modifications, fitting state of the art Purifier™ e4 systems to its pallet delivery HGV fleet. These are supplied by the UK industry leading specialist technology provider Clean Diesel Technologies Ltd.
The Purifier™ e4 is based on a wall flow diesel particulate filter for maximum performance, to bring vehicles up to the Euro 4/EPA Level 3 standards. When used in conjunction with ‘Platinum Plus’ fuel additive, the Purifier e4 is unique in providing up to 99% reductions in PM, while actually decreasing overall NOx levels, and with no increase in NO2. This makes Clean Diesel Purifier systems especially attractive for LEZ areas with NO2 or NOx sensitivities.
