The ancient market town of Witney has been famed through the ages for the manufacture of fine woollen blankets woven from wool gathered from sheep in the surrounding Cotswolds. The waters of the River Windrush flowing through the valley and Witney town have properties that were directly ascribed to the quality of the blankets. Although blanket production has now ceased, the Witney of today has attracted a multitude of business and industry supported by a willing and enthusiastic workforce. The community retains links with the past and the old charm of the market town still pervades, yet it is close to major trunk routes and motorways connecting it to the nation. |
